Long-time U.S. Am Tour member Kim Shek tees it up at San Diego Country Club this week (Aug 21-24, 2025) to compete in her third U.S. Senior Women’s Open in four years.
Shek, who resides in Bellevue, WA and is a member of Sahalee Golf Club, was medalist at her qualifying site back in June to punch her ticket to San Diego. Shek traveled to Arizona for the qualifier, and U.S. Am Tour Phoenix Director, Tom Cramsie, filled in for Shek’s usual caddie who had to back out last minute. Shek played a very steady round and posted one-over-par to earn Low Am and Low Gross honors at Terravita Golf & Country Club in Scottsdale, AZ. Shek, in an interview with Am Tour officials, shared some inspriing tidbits about her golfing journey over the years…
Shek started playing golf later in life — in fact, she picked up the game just two years before joining the Am Tour, which at the time was called the Golf Channel Am Tour. Shek started out competing in the Hogan flight (8.0-11.9), where she experienced immediate success, and quickly moved up the ranks to what was then called the Palmer flight (4.0-7.9). Fast forward 13 years later, and she is now a six-time champion (in 23 events played) in the U.S. Am Tour’s Championship flight (3.9 or less) and is teeing it up in her third Senior Women’s Major Championship in just four years. Shek also shared with us that she has successfully qualified for the U.S. Senior Women’s Open every year she has attempted to, missing one year due to personal reasons, and got through in her very first try, which also happened to be the first time she ever teed it up in a USGA competettion. Pretty amazing stuff. Kim credited the Am Tour in her preparation for numerous USGA qualifiers over the years, stating “getting tournament reps in and playing with the men in the Championship flight throughout the years has defintely helped.”
Shek will be competing against a stacked field in Southern CA, incuding the likes of LPGA Tour legends Annika Sorenstam, Juli Inkster, Laura Davies and Karrie Webb. The U.S. Am Tour team wishes Kim the best of luck this week and beyond, on and off the golf course!
